WPB TO TURN UP THE HEAT THIS VALENTINE'S DAY AT THE CLEMATIS BY NIGHT FIREFIGHTER CHILI COOK-OFF
Bring a date down to the West Palm Beach Waterfront to benefit the West Palm Beach Fraternal Order of Firefighters
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (January 23, 2019) -- The temperature might be dropping, but the City of West Palm Beach is turning up the heat at this year’s Clematis by Night Firefighter Chili Cook-off. The annual event is expected to be even more spicy, as it falls on Valentine’s Day. Attendees of all ages will sample more than 20 chilis, each competing for the coveted title of “best chili”. Participants include area fire departments, police departments, restaurants, caterers, and more. The event takes place on Thursday, February 14 during Clematis by Night, which has been newly branded as W.P.B. - “Where the Party Begins.” For only $10, guests will receive a wristband granting unlimited chili tastings, while supplies last. Lovebirds, and those attending as “pal-entines” or family, can also listen to free live music, which is part of Clematis by Night’s weekly offerings. New this year, visitors will have an opportunity to see how much heat they can handle on a mechanical chili ride. For $5, visitors can try their luck at staying on the mechanical-bull-ride-style attraction.

“The Clematis by Night Firefighter Chili Cook-off is a lovely way to spend Valentine’s Day,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio. “What could be more caring than spending time at a benefit event, all while enjoying an evening along our beautiful waterfront. Thank you to our participants, of whom many protect us by day and night – and are also able to whip up a tasty chili in their spare time! We are delighted to host this event for the fourth year, while raising money for the West Palm Beach Fraternal Order of Firefighters.”

The evening’s entertainment includes an opening act by Tim Charron and a feature performance by Maggie Baugh. Charron currently has three albums out. The latest, “Chasing The Sun,” was recorded with country mega star Jason Aldean’s band. He considers his music to be “country rock with a twist of lime.” After Charron’s performance, Baugh will take the stage as the featured act. Just shy of 18-years-old, Baugh is already a Nashville recording artist, singer/songwriter, guitar player and dynamic fiddle player.

“Clematis by Night is ‘Where the Party Begins’ and Valentine’s Day is no exception,” said Mary Pinak, Community Events Manager for the City of West Palm Beach Department of Parks and Recreation. “We are even turning up the heat this year by hosting the annual Chili Cook-off on the loveliest day of the year. We encourage everyone to stop by, enjoy the live music and scenic backdrop. It doesn’t get hotter than this!”
