Lynn's Bio
I am the youngest of four children born to John and Nellie Whitfield. My parents both died when I was young and before they had an opportunity to enjoy their 50's. In January I will be the last of the siblings to reach the fifty mark. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and was a very active child. As a teenager I kept myself in shape by being a cheerleader and a dancer. Of course once I entered college I experienced the usual freshman spread and gained several pounds. Again I was able to lose weight through physical activity. I was able to manage my weight as I study law at the University of Miami with no problem.

The older I got the more I seemed to gain. The stress of the practice of law and life finally took its toll and I have put on about thirty pounds than I need on by body. I am a very active attorney who has little time to cook and therefore I eat out a lot. Having no children or husband to cook for hinders me in that I don't usually think about planning meals. With CityFit I am on the right track. I'm on the road to 4 F's- Fifty, Fabulous, Fit and Fine. The road will be rough and full of roadblocks. But I will complete the journey.

Lynn's Progress

I'm doing great. It is hard to believe that we are half way finished with CityFit Challenge. I have lost a total of 22 pounds to date. I am down 2 dress sizes and a total of 6 inches. Unfortunately I got sick about a week ago and I have been unable to work out for a while. I also just learned that my trainer left town so Ultima has to assign me a new one. I hope that I have as good a relationship with this one as I did my original one. I have began training to walk the Palm Beach 1/2 marathon. I'm looking forward to it. It is good to go shopping and being able to buy clothes in a smaller size. Most people are now starting to notice the difference in my weight. It is not easy to stay on task but I know that it is worth it. It is helping me in other areas of my life also. I''m becoming more organized in general. Well I need to get back into my healthy eating and exercise program, so I will end now and go eat a healthy dinner.

Lynn's Previous Updates

"The first week went well. I meet with her on Wednesday mornings. She has placed me on a circuit training workout. Each week she will change some of the machines that I will be working on. The first two days I did the circuit twice with 15 to 20 reps per machine or exercise. Today, Monday (5/24/04), I did the circuit 3 times again with 15 to 20 reps per machine or exericse. She has me using machines and free weights. My circuit starts with the back muscles and alternatives back and chest with legs, going from largest muscles to small muscles. I also do ab work out. I have been working at least 4 days a week. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays I walk 3.2 miles and on Saturday I walk at least 4 miles. I had started Weight Watchers a few weeks before the official beginning of CityFit and I have lost 8 pounds. I can tell the difference in my clothing already.

I started my third week with my trainer Cynthia this week. Instead of doing a circuit she selected ten exercises for me to do. I'm to do 2-3 sets of 15 reps for each exercise so I fatigue the muscles. I think that is the term she used. I think she is trying to kill me this week. I already know that I'm going to be sore. I work out once a week with her and twice without her. On my off days I ride my recumbant bicycle.

For the six weeks that I have been in weightwatchers I have lost 12.5 pounds. Things are starting to fit better and look a little better. One thing I have realized is that your fat does not come off in a nice even sheet. So it looks a lot worse now that I'm losing fat."
