45th Street at CSX Railroad Tracks

Description:  Beginning 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2003, 45th Street will be CLOSED to through traffic between Windsor Avenue and Australian Avenue to allow for rail and signal gate arm construction associated with the Tri-Rail Commuter Rail Authority double tracking project. The work is scheduled to be complete and 45th Street open to traffic by 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 10th.

ALTERNATE ROUTES:
During this time 36th Street will be signed as the primary detour route for east/west traffic. The designated truck route will be Greenwood Avenue/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard/Australian Avenue.

Motorists eastbound on 45th Street approaching Australian Avenue will be detoured. Motorists having destinations in West Palm Beach including St. Mary’s Medical Center are advised to use Australian Avenue south to 36th Street, east on 36th Street to Greenwood Avenue or Broadway (US 1). St. Mary’s Medical Center has access via 45th Street from Greenwood Avenue or US 1.

Motorists eastbound on 45th Street approaching Australian Avenue having destinations in Riviera Beach or North County are advised to use Australian Avenue northbound to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Motorists westbound from Broadway (US 1) should use 36th Street to Australian Ave.

54th Street Reconstruction - City Project No. 9404008

Description: Construction began on 54th Street between Pinewood Avenue and Brian Chapell Park.

The entire roadway will be torn up and replaced. Work also includes a new water main, storm sewer system, and sanitary sewer line. Work will take about nine months to complete.

The Contractor will work to keep the roadway open to residents. The nature of construction can be disruptive but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum. The City and the Contractor will coordinate construction activities so that emergency services will remain intact. Trash collection and mail delivery will not be interrupted. We appreciate your cooperation during construction of this project.

Washington Road – Southern Boulevard to Greenwood Drive

Description: Beginning 9:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2003, Washington Road will be closed to thru traffic between Southern Boulevard and Greenwood Drive. The road closure is required to allow for construction of paver brick pedestrian crosswalks. Washington Road will be open to traffic by 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2003.

During this time, motorists southbound on Flagler Drive /Washington Road will be detoured to Flagler Drive via Greenwood Drive. Motorists northbound at Southern Boulevard should use Olive Avenue or Flagler Drive as an alternate route.

Olive Avenue

Olive Avenue from Belvedere Road to Okeechobee Boulevard (Wilson Miller/FDOT): This portion of Olive Ave. is now open to traffic. Olive Ave., south of Lakeview Ave. now carries north and southbound traffic at a speed of 25 mph, with changes in the traffic configuration, most notably at the traffic circle located in front of the Norton Museum of Art. The new movement is one-way and counter clockwise, requiring traffic to KEEP RIGHT. .

Olive Avenue from Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to Lakeview Avenue (Wilson Miller/FDOT): Olive Ave. is now open between 8th St. and Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. to northbound traffic only. Olive Ave. remains closed between Quadrille Blvd. and 8th St. through August 31, 2004. Traffic is being detoured to Dixie Hwy. and Flagler Drive.

3rd Street between Olive Avenue and Dixie Highway will be closed to eastbound traffic until July 2004 for the Palm Beach County Courthouse unwrapping.

Description: Olive is being rebuilt in West Palm Beach. Other improvements include new sanitary sewers, water lines and storm drains, landscaping, new street lights, illuminated signs and traffic signals.

5th Street - Flagler Drive & East of the Northbridge Center driveway

Description: Beginning August 2003, 5th Street (between Olive Avenue and Flagler Drive) will be closed to through traffic. Access to the Northbridge Center will be maintained via 5th Street from Olive Avenue.

The road closure is required to allow for the construction of the Flagler Drive Sub-Aqueous Crossing project by the City of West Palm Beach. This project involves the installation of a new transmission water main from 5th Street in the City of West Palm Beach, under the Intracoastal Waterway, to Royal Poinciana Way in the Town of Palm Beach. Work is scheduled for completion by November 30, 2003.

Motorists using 5th Street to access the Flagler Memorial Bridge are advised to use 4th Street as an alternate route.

Dixie Highway Projects

Dixie Highway from Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to Lakeview Avenue (Consul-Tech/FDOT): Paving will continue on Tuesday 6/1 and proceed from Datura Street southward. Anticipate intermittent closures at the intersection for approximately 2-3 hours each to allow for paving operation.

Tuesday, 6/1, Datura St. east to be closed for roadwork in preparation for asphalt later in week.

Wednesday, 6/2, Evernia St. east will be closed for WM / Storm Drainage Work / Roadwork in preparation for asphalt later week.

Fern Street (west side), Hibiscus Street (west side), Gardenia Street (west side) are scheduled for intermittent closures due to asphalt paving.

Please note that this work will entail a rolling operation so exact dates and times may change as the work progresses.

Dixie Highway from 25th Street to Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. (Consul-Tech/FDOT):
North and southbound traffic has been shifted to the west side of the roadway between Butler Street and Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. One lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.

Description:
Beginning July 2002, construction will begin on Dixie Highway between Okeechobee Blvd to Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Traffic will be reduced to one lane for approximately twelve months to allow for reconstruction of the sidewalks, drainage, water and sewer lines, landscaping, brick paving, curbs and roadway.

Lakeview Ave & Okeechobee Blvd between Flagler Drive & Dixie

Project Update: (Jan. 2004) Beginning Sunday, January 11th thru Wednesday, January 14, 2004, the hours 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., roadway paving will be take place on Okeechobee Boulevard and on Lakeview Avenue between Dixie Highway and Flagler Drive. During this time period motorists will be detoured to an adjacent east/west roadway. Motorists will incur some delay thru this corridor during this time period.

Description:
A 21-foot high drawbridge with bike lanes, sidewalks, decorative street lights and pedestrian lookouts is under construction along with improvements to the road from Dixie west of the bridge to Cocoanut Row east of the bridge.

US 1 / N. Dixie Hwy from Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to 25th St.

Project Update: There will be one lane closed on Dixie Highway between 19th to 25th Street at all times. Use caution.

Description: The Florida Department of Transportation is reconstructing North Dixie Highway/U.S. 1 between Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and 25th Street in West Palm Beach. Beginning May 2003, Motorist traveling on this segment of North Dixie Highway will experience construction activity requiring lane reduction and traffic rerouting. The project scheduled completion is Fall 2005.

During the course of the project, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Motorist who routinely travels on North Dixie Highway should consider using Australian Avenue or North Flagler Drive as alternate north / south routes.

RESTRICTION: A lane will be closed IN EACH DIRECTION AT ALL TIMES from 19th to 25th Streets, with both directions of traffic using the west side of the road through mid-October.

The Florida Department of Transportation has retained the firm of Consul-Tech Construction Management Inc. to oversee the project. Consul-Tech has a local office and can be reached at telephone 561-659-3680.

Olive Avenue - 8th Street to Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard

Project Update: (Nov. 2003) WORK IS LIMITED TO THE SECTION OF OLIVE BETWEEN PALM BEACH LAKES AND 8TH STREET THROUGH FEBRUARY. THIS SECTION OF OLIVE IS CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC AT ALL TIMES THROUGH FEBRUARY. TRAFFIC IS BEING BE RE-ROUTED TO DIXIE OR FLAGLER.

Scheduled work crew between Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. and Banyan Blvd. on Olive Avenue until 1/1/2006. The rebuilding of Olive Avenue (US 1) will have Olive between Palm Beach Lakes and just north of Banyan Blvd at 8th Street closed to all motorists at all time through February 2004. Traffic will be rerouted to Dixie and Flagler. Follow detour.

Description: Beginning at 7:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2003, North Olive Avenue between 8th Street and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard will be closed to traffic. This closure is the commencement of the first of six phases of reconstruction of Olive Avenue between Lakeview Avenue and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard. For the next six months motorists northbound on Olive Avenue will be detoured at Eighth Street to North Dixie Highway or North Flagler Drive.

During this time period motorists should consider using other east/west streets to access North Dixie Highway or North Flagler Drive in advance of Eighth Street. Quadrille Boulevard is a recommended route from Olive Avenue to North Dixie Highway. Third Street is a recommended route from Olive Avenue to North Flagler Drive.

The Olive Avenue reconstruction project is funded through the Florida Department of Transportation. The project is 1.3 miles in length. The project will be constructed in six phases, each phase being open to traffic prior to commencement of construction of a new segment of roadway. The project construction phases will proceed from Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to Lakeview Avenue. News releases will advise motorists of new detours as the project proceeds south.

Palm Street between Florida Avenue and Dixie Highway

Description: The City of West Palm Beach will be installing a new storm sewer and a new water main under the railroad tracks on Palm Street by “jack and bore” as well as improving the roadway on Palm Street.

October 6th through November 7th Palm Street will be CLOSED at the railroad tracks. During construction, traffic will NOT be permitted over the railroad tracks.

This will bring heavy construction to this area. Closure dates are approximate and will be adjusted by future notifications as necessary.

Completion Date: Work is scheduled for completion by November 8, 2003.
