Wireless West Palm Beach Network Configuration
We want to make the connection process as easy as possible. The goal is to automatically configure your laptop or device for connection. But, as you can imagine, with lots of different vendors selling devices and cards there could be specific configuration instructions you'll need to follow. Please refer to the instructions below.

All you need is a wireless/Wi-Fi (802.11 a,b,g) enabled laptop or other device like the Palm Tungsten C handheld. ("Wi-Fi" is a registered certification mark of the Wi-Fi Alliance.) Today most products such as laptops and PDA’s are designed for wireless connectivity and some may come equipped with a wireless adapter card. Otherwise, you'll need to purchase an adapter card at a local retail electronics outlet. When purchasing an adapter card for your laptop or device be sure to read the manufacturers specs for compatibility and interoperability information. If you're using Windows XP it should automatically “sniff” out and identify the network. If you are not using Windows XP, you may consider downloading the Boingo software. You will not be charged to use the software to sniff out any nearby networks.

Windows XP/Windows Server 2003

Wireless auto-configuration available in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 can dynamically select a wireless network to connect to, based upon your preferences or default settings. In most cases, Windows will prompt you letting you know that a wireless network is available – should this not happen, you will need to access the wireless connection settings.

To access the wireless connection settings:

Go to Start menu and select My Network Places

Click on View Network Connections in left column

Right click on Wireless Adapter and select Properties

Select Wireless Networks tab

CITYWIFI_PUBLIC” should appear under available networks, if you are in range of a Wireless West Palm Beach hotspot.

Click on “CITYWIFI_PUBLIC” and select Configure

Check “Allow me to connect to the selected wireless network, even though it is not secure.”

Click Connect

Windows 2000, Windows 98 and Windows 95

Windows versions prior to Windows XP do not include connectivity functions for wireless networks. Please refer to the documentation provided by your wireless adapter card vendor.
